Photo challenges

A popular wedding game: guests get a small challenge – such as “Re-create the couple’s first kiss” – and complete it at the photo booth. It is set up under admin area "Photo challenges". Everything in this chapter belongs to the event; cancelled sessions do not count as completed.

Two ways to a challenge#

WayFits when …
Drawn at the boothguests should join in spontaneously. The photo booth prefers challenges nobody has completed yet.
Card at the seatthe couple prepares challenges and places them at the seats. The guest redeems the card at the booth – by number, QR code or by picking it from a list.

Both can be combined. “Used for” sets per challenge whether it is drawn, printed on cards or both – so the challenges for the best men, for example, stay on their cards.

How guests get a challenge#

The separate button on the start screen fits when challenges are an offer next to normal photos: whoever wants to play taps it, everyone else takes photos as usual. The question after start fits when as many guests as possible should play – every guest then decides before the shot whether to draw a challenge, redeem a card or continue without one. Both at once is possible.

What the guest sees at the photo booth#

After “Photo challenge” – or at the question after start – the guest draws a challenge or redeems their card. The drawn challenge appears large on a card; “Draw again” swaps it as often as set under “Redraws allowed”. A card is entered on the number pad, picked from the list or read: next to the number pad, the booth shows the live view with a frame, the guest holds the QR code of their card inside it and a short beep confirms. A handheld scanner on the USB port reads the card as well. In the table competition, the booth asks for the table when drawing.

During the shot, a banner above the live view reminds guests of the challenge, and the notice before the first shot shows it large. The final screen shows “Challenge completed” and the progress. Button, progress and notice can be moved in the screen editor.

The challenge on photo and print#

The layout editor offers the dynamic fields “Photo challenge”, “Challenge number”, “Table” and “Points”. A text with one of these fields only appears in a session with a challenge – without one it is left out entirely instead of standing half empty on the photo. “Table” and “Points” only exist in the table competition. Graphics and shapes – such as a banner behind the challenge text – can be set to “Only in a session with a photo challenge” under “Appears” in the layout editor.

Creating challenges#

The quickest way is a template: it adds ready-made challenges in the event’s language, which can be edited freely afterwards. Own challenges are added one by one via “Add challenge” or all at once via Paste a list – one line per challenge. The collections Wedding (40 challenges), Birthday and Company party (35 each) are available.

Each challenge gets a fixed number when it is created. It does not change when the order is rearranged or another challenge is deleted – printed cards stay valid. A switched-off challenge (“Active”) keeps its number but is neither drawn nor accepted as a card.

Images for the challenges#

Challenges from a template come with a symbol image. “Template symbol images” sets how it looks: “Line art in the accent colour” (default) adapts to every event design, “Colourful illustrations” brings its own colours, “None” hides the symbols. Each challenge can also get its own image: tap the field at the start of the row and choose an image (JPG, PNG, WebP or GIF); the cross removes it again. Your own image takes priority over the symbol.

The image appears at the photo booth (draw, card, list and the notice before the shot), in the tablet gallery window, on the booth's simple card, in the challenge album and on the interim results slide. Challenges added before the symbol images get their symbol by inserting the template again.

Repetition#

Multiple times, open ones first suits most celebrations: every challenge comes up once first, then the draw starts over. Each challenge only once fits when the challenges are to be worked through like a list – say 40 challenges for 40 photos. Once all are completed, “Draw a challenge” disappears; cards can still be redeemed.

Table competition#

In the table competition, the tables collect points. Each challenge earns a table its points exactly once – a second photo of the same challenge is allowed but does not count again. Guests who draw at the booth are asked for their table; cards carry their table themselves. Table names such as “Best men” or “Bride’s family” make the ranking more personal.

Printing challenge cards#

“Print cards” creates a PDF with all card challenges, edge to edge with crop marks. The photo booth’s simple card fits four times on A4 and carries challenge, card number and QR code. To design the cards to match the wedding, create a layout of the type “Challenge card” in the layout editor: each card fills in the dynamic fields “Photo challenge”, “Card number” and “Table” itself, and a QR code with the target “Card code” carries its number. Select it under “Card design”.

Without the table competition, each card carries the number of its challenge. With the table competition, “Create card set” distributes the challenges across the tables and gives each card its own four-digit number – so the booth knows which table the photo counts for when the card is redeemed.

Progress during the celebration#

“Progress” shows which challenges are completed, with the photos, and the ranking in the table competition. If a guest redeemed the wrong card, the “×” on the photo removes it from the scoring – the photo itself stays in the gallery. “Download as CSV” provides the list for the award at the end of the evening.

Guests see the progress too: on the start screen (“Progress on the start screen”) and in the slideshow. “Interim results in the slideshow” sets after how many guest photos a slide with all challenges, check marks and – in the table competition – the ranking appears; the preview below shows it as it looks right now. On the tablet, the “Photo challenges” button in the gallery's header leads to the same progress. Thumbnails appear there only if the gallery itself shows photos – not with “Turn on privacy mode”.

A copied event starts without progress but keeps its challenges and settings. If the photos of an event are deleted, their completions disappear as well.

Album after the celebration#

“Album” creates two files for the hosts: the challenge album as PDF – a title page with the event name and progress, one page per completed challenge with up to four photos, followed by the open challenges and, in the table competition, the ranking – and photos per challenge as ZIP with one folder per challenge and all photos in full size. Both are based on the gallery: a photo deleted there is missing from the album too, but the challenge still counts as completed.
