Mouse and keyboard
What is used for input at the photo booth: mouse, touch monitor and keyboard. The settings apply to the device, not to a single event.
Mouse pointer#
On a touch monitor Windows normally hides the mouse pointer by itself as soon as someone touches the screen. Some monitors, especially older ones, do not report to Windows as a touchscreen but as a mouse. The pointer then stays in the middle of the picture and jumps to every spot that is touched. Whether Windows recognises the monitor as a touchscreen is shown in the Windows settings under "System" > "About" in the line "Pen and touch".
"Mouse pointer on the guest screen" has three levels:
- "Always show": the pointer stays visible. Existing installations behave like this after the update.
- "Hide after 1 minute without mouse movement": default for new installations. Anyone setting up the software at a desk with a mouse keeps the pointer as long as the mouse is moved.
- "Always hide": for monitors that report as a mouse. Touches no longer bring the pointer back.
In the admin area, in the quick settings menu with its PIN prompt, in the event selection and in the first-time setup the pointer always stays visible.
Keyboard#
For photo booths with a built-in or connected keyboard. With "Connected keyboard instead of on-screen keyboard" the keys on the screen disappear; dialogs such as the email entry become much smaller and cover less of the picture. By default, a short note pointing to the keyboard takes the place of the keys. If the keyboard sits clearly visible in front of the screen anyway, the note can be switched off.
A custom text can replace the standard one, for example saying where the keyboard is. It appears in every language exactly as entered; without it, guests see the note in their own language.
The Windows on-screen keyboard still stays closed. A hand scanner for credit codes and challenge cards works as before.
