Screens and display
Everything to do with the booth's screen: how the device stands, which monitor shows what and how large the interface appears on it. The settings apply to the device, not to a single event.
Build type#
Photo booth or photo mirror - described under Photo mirror.
Screens#
Which connected monitor shows the photo booth and which serves as an extra screen, plus the assignment of a touch screen. What an extra screen shows at a party is set per event — described under Extra screens.
Display & scaling#
The guest screens are designed for Full HD — 1920 × 1080 in landscape, 1080 × 1920 in portrait. The photo booth converts this size to its own window: on a smaller screen everything becomes correspondingly smaller, on a larger one bigger. Nothing needs to be set for that.
The first line in the area states the result — how large the window of the photo booth is and at what percentage the interface runs there. On a screen with 1920 × 1080 that is 100 percent, on a Microsoft Surface with 200 percent display scaling in Windows about 71 percent.
The preview at the top of the section shows the guest interface exactly as it appears in this window — only scaled down to the width of the section. Sizes, spacing and line breaks keep the same proportions as on the photo booth, even when the admin area is open on another device. The buttons above it switch between start, selection, capture and final screen. Changed values show up there immediately, before they are saved. A sample image stands in for the live view.
Reference width and reference height below are something else: they hold the resolution of the connected screen and thus define the format of the editing area in the screen editors. The photo booth measures them at start and follows along when the screen is swapped. To have it right away, click "Adopt from screen" — the button only appears when the stored and the measured resolution differ. Collapsed, the area then reads "Screen changed". These values do not affect the size of the interface.
If the conversion does not fit on a particular screen, "Manual (fixed zoom factor)" with a self-chosen value helps.
"Live image display" below only concerns the camera image: whether it fills the screen and how much margin remains. Buttons and texts are unaffected.
Graphics acceleration#
The interface is drawn by the graphics card. That is the factory setting and usually the right one: scrolling in the admin area and in the layout editor is twice as smooth, transitions and videos do not stutter, and the processor stays free for camera, processing and upload.
The tick "Turn off graphics acceleration" is the emergency exit for devices whose graphics driver mangles the display. This shows as a completely black live view although the photos are fine, or as black areas, stripes and frozen pictures in the interface. After setting it the software has to be restarted; the processor then draws again and the display becomes noticeably more sluggish.
Below the tick it says what the open display is currently drawing with. If the admin area is opened from a tablet on the network, the information applies to that tablet.
A current display engine is required: "Microsoft Edge WebView2 Runtime", verified with version 153.0.4234.32. It normally keeps itself up to date; its version is shown in the Windows settings under "Apps" > "Installed apps". If it is considerably older, reinstalling the runtime from the Microsoft website helps.
