RAWCaptureBooth:
Photo Booth Software with RAW support

Software – Made in Germany!

After several years in the photo booth rental business, we gathered every requirement from real operations, especially direct customer feedback. RAWCaptureBooth combines that experience in a stable, flexible, touch-optimized application that supports events of any size.

Thank you

Thank you for your support

RAWCaptureBooth has grown enormously through feedback from real events - in features, in comfort and in everyday reliability. A sincere thank you to everyone who tests, reports and contributes ideas.

A young project - with high standards

RAWCaptureBooth is still a very young project. A lot has recently changed under the hood so the software stays maintainable in the long run. Every release goes through intensive testing - but testing it completely is impossible: the number of possible setting combinations is now in the order of 10227. So we cannot rule out that a bug slips through unnoticed.

This is exactly where your feedback helps most: if something looks odd to you, please get in touch. A short message is enough - every report makes the next release better.

Features that really help in daily photo booth operation

RAWCaptureBooth is built for photo booth operators who want to set up events quickly, guide guests clearly through the workflow and deliver images reliably - printed, by email, by QR code or through the cloud.

Capture and guest experience

Photo, GIF and Boomerang with a touch-optimized flow, info screens before and between shots, customizable texts, colors and sounds, configurable countdowns, image preview with "retake" and optional guest selection for layouts, filters or digital backgrounds. Triggering works by touch or through a connected buzzer.

Camera and image quality

Support for DSLR, DSLM and webcam through the native connection using the Canon EDSDK or the Sony camera SDK. Aperture, shutter speed and ISO can be set directly in the software, plus separate profiles for photo and motion, JPEG+RAW storage and an exposure check that warns about shots that are too bright or too dark.

Layout, print and output

Layout editor with placeholders and overlays, layout previews in the admin menu, photo strip printing on a dedicated printer, direct print, printer pooling with load balancing, DNP status evaluation, per-printer offset correction to compensate for device tolerances, counters, usage limits and pay-per-use. Existing templates in dslrBooth/LumaBooth format can be imported as a ZIP - placeholders, texts and the design graphic are carried over and stay fully editable.

Cloud, email and QR

Email sending, web album QR, single-image QR download, RAWCaptureBooth self-hosted server, Dropbox, Google Drive and folder export - including an outbox for delayed sending when the connection is unstable. An offline mode hides all online features when there is no network on site.

Background Studio

Digital backgrounds via chroma key or AI background removal, several AI models to choose from, alpha matting for fine edges such as hair, active and guest-selectable backgrounds, preview rendering and a local AI service that can run without internet after setup.

Operations and administration

Event assistant and status check for all key modules, favorites and search in the admin area, settings presets, backup and restore, import and export of complete configurations, a quick-settings menu with its own PIN for use on site, opening hours, kiosk mode, re-rendering of sessions that were already captured, session data mirroring, privacy-by-default mode and a multilingual interface with language editor.

Filters and photo decoration

Optional filter selection before the shot - for example sepia, black and white or Nashville. After the shot, guests can decorate their image: stickers from the bundled sets or your own graphics, free text with font and colour, plus freehand drawing with brush and eraser.

Gallery, slideshow and second monitor

Gallery with paging and selectable actions such as printing, QR download or email. Screensaver and slideshow with images or video and a text overlay - optionally on a second monitor while guests keep shooting at the front.

Especially useful for rental operators

Many features are designed to reduce on-site work: set up events faster, prepare matching cloud and QR sharing options, monitor printers, keep consumables visible and resend jobs later if the connection drops.

Keep using the templates you already own

Already bought templates for other photo booth software? No need to redesign: RAWCaptureBooth imports common dslrBooth/LumaBooth-format templates (e.g. from shops such as Templatesbooth.com) directly as a ZIP. Placeholders, texts including font, colour and shadow, and the design graphic as an overlay are carried over and stay fully editable in the layout editor.

Special thanks go to the developers of digiCamControl. Without their work and openness, RAWCaptureBooth's broad camera support would never have come about.

For photo booth operators

Why RAWCaptureBooth is worth considering

The software is not only about taking good images. It is designed to simplify the full event workflow: predictable costs, flexible delivery options, less manual follow-up and clear privacy choices.

One-time license instead of subscription

Predictable software costs without monthly license fees - especially useful when operating multiple photo booths.

Flexible cloud options

Self-hosted server, Dropbox, Google Drive and folder export cover different customer and privacy requirements.

QR code per image

Guests can download only their own image without automatically getting access to the full event album.

RAW/JPEG workflow

Immediate output for guests while keeping room for later editing, customer requests or high-quality galleries.

Offline-capable operation

The booth can keep running when event Wi-Fi is unreliable. Emails and uploads can be sent later through the outbox.

Developed for real operations

Many features are based on actual operator feedback and are implemented with daily event work in mind.

LightControl V2 and V2 Mini control unit for photo booth lighting

Hardware expansion

Light Control V2

LightControl V2 controls softbox lights, shutter lights and other additional devices directly via RAWCaptureBooth. Additional light sources only switch on when they are really needed - completely automatically.

Leaving lights permanently on or using temporary motion detectors is a thing of the past.

With the LightControl V2 Temp variant, temperature monitoring of the photo booth is possible in addition to light control. When a critical temperature value is reached, automatic shutdown of the photo booth and alarm notifications can be triggered.

Optionally, the hot shoe input can also be connected to the camera's hot shoe for perfect timing of the signal/trigger lights.

  • Intelligent on/off management for 230V outputs
  • Signal LEDs can be used as trigger lights
  • Seamlessly integrates into RAWCaptureBooth workflows - from the start screen to the countdown.

Technical data LightControl V2

  • Inputs: 230V AC, USB-C, camera hot shoe (2-wire, max. 5V)

RAWCaptureBooth Cockpit

A free start center for the photo booth station: it welcomes the end customer and guides them step by step to the running photo booth. It is not required for operation.

The Cockpit starts with the operating system. The wizard connects the Wi-Fi, checks the internet connection and lets the customer choose whether RAWCaptureBooth starts with or without online features such as email sending and cloud upload.

  • Guided start: network, connection test, operating mode, start of the photo booth.
  • Help with Wi-Fi captive portals in hotels, holiday homes or event venues.
  • Service menu for the operator with remote maintenance and on-screen keyboard.

Remote administration in the management portal

Every photo booth reports its state to the management portal - no add-on required. The browser shows whether a booth is running, how busy it is and how much has already been printed.

From there it can also be controlled without being on site. Reported are state, counters and errors - no images.

  • Live status per photo booth: online, uptime, operating mode and network.
  • Counters for prints and sessions, plus disk space and machine load.
  • Remote control: restart the software, switch the operating mode, restart or shut down Windows.
  • Remote access to the booth interface in the browser - without VPN and without port forwarding.

Status instead of calling the customer

All photo booths on one page - even while they are at the rental customer.

No add-on required

Remote administration is part of RAWCaptureBooth. Set up in a few steps: enable remote access in the RAWCaptureBooth admin area, copy the setup code and paste it into the portal.

Self hosting

Own management server

For everyone who wants the maximum scope of use, we have an expanded solution for our management portal. Upon request (if the license is active), we provide it in two variants: as a Docker image for your own server, and as a package for rented web hosting with PHP and a database.

Which variant fits depends on the existing infrastructure. The Docker image is for everyone already running a server of their own. For rented web hosting, FTP access and a database are enough: upload the files, open the setup assistant, done. An included check script says in advance whether a hosting plan is suitable.

In addition to its own management portal, it also includes a solution for event management, image uploads and an organizer frontend, so that the end customer (e.g. wedding couples) can have access to a separate administration interface, which, in addition to photo booth control, also enables the deletion of event images (if, for example, unwanted images were taken).

With this solution, an external cloud provider or any other self-hosting variants are no longer needed - it is an all-in-one solution for events, images and management.

  • Either as a Docker image for your own servers and data centers, or on rented web hosting with PHP and MySQL.
  • Management portal, event and image management plus organizer frontend in one package.
  • No additional cloud services necessary – full data sovereignty and compliance.

Free companion tool

FST - the Photo Booth Setup Tool

Out of the box, Windows is not built for continuous operation inside a photo booth: the screen turns off, an update reboots the machine, notifications pop over the application and an edge swipe gesture pulls guests out of the interface. The Photo Booth Setup Tool clears exactly these pitfalls in a few clicks.

FST is portable, needs no installation and is free for everyone - just run it, apply the optimisations you want and the booth is ready. Every optimisation can be toggled individually and reverted at any time, so the machine returns to normal use without leftovers.

  • Power, standby and display settings for continuous operation.
  • Suppress notifications, edge swipe gestures and automatic update restarts.
  • Disable captive portal detection - no pop-up window on event Wi-Fi.
  • Startup repair after a power cut, so the booth comes back up on its own.
  • Every optimisation individually switchable and fully reversible.
  • Portable, no installation, administrator rights required.

Important note about Windows and antivirus warnings

The software is currently not digitally signed. Because of that, Windows may show a warning during installation and antivirus tools may occasionally flag the file as a false positive.

Background: RAWCaptureBooth was only released recently and is still in its early startup phase. To avoid the ongoing cost of a code-signing certificate for now, we deliberately postponed digital signing. We plan to add it later once the ongoing costs are justified.

We have also already submitted a version of the software to Avast/AVG, ESET, and Microsoft so their systems can review the file and better account for possible false positives. If needed, we are happy to provide further information.

System requirements

RAWCaptureBooth runs on ordinary Windows hardware. Capture, layout, printing and gallery work completely offline - an internet connection is only needed for licence checks, cloud upload, e-mail delivery, the web photo album and AI portraits.

  Minimum Recommended
Operating system Windows 10 or Windows 11, 64-bit in each case Windows 11, 64-bit
Processor 64-bit processor with two cores Four cores
Memory 4 GB 8 GB - needed when live view, GIF/boomerang and AI portraits come together. The AI service for background removal takes around 1.5 GB more while it is calculating
Disk space 2 GB for the program, plus room for the captures SSD with 20 GB free - one evening of captures quickly fills several gigabytes
Screen Touchscreen, portrait or landscape, 1280 × 800 or higher Full HD touchscreen
Ports One free USB port for the camera Several USB ports for printer, buzzer and lighting
Rights Administrator rights for the installation A dedicated Windows user account for photo booth operation
Runtimes Microsoft WebView2 Runtime and .NET Framework - already present on current Windows installations

Depending on your setup

  • Camera: a DSLR or mirrorless camera from Canon, Nikon or Sony via USB - or a USB webcam. No additional software required.
  • Printing: a printer set up in Windows.
  • Wireless buzzer: a Bluetooth adapter (Bluetooth Low Energy).
  • Wired buzzer, relay and light control: one further USB port each.
  • Digital backgrounds without a green screen: the AI service in addition, also 64-bit. It ships with all AI models and works without internet, but takes around 1.5 GB of memory while cutting out the person. Processing time per image depends on the processor: the faster the CPU, the sooner the cut-out is ready.
  • Internet: for licence checks, cloud upload, e-mail delivery, the web photo album and AI portraits - at least occasionally.

Since version 3.3.0 RAWCaptureBooth is released as a 64-bit build only. On 32-bit Windows, version 3.2.0 keeps running but no longer receives new features - upgrade to 64-bit.

All listed models can be controlled over a USB connection – including live image, autofocus, shutter release and exposure settings.

In the 64-bit version you can additionally enable the official Sony Camera Remote SDK: a smoother live image and more reliable exposure values straight from Sony. This extension is optional and is offered by Sony for 64-bit only.

Important: Native Sony camera support is new and could not be verified on real hardware yet, as we do not have a test body. Feedback on whether a camera works or not helps us a lot.

The camera models mentioned above should be supported according to the current status. However, we were not able to check all of them due to a lack of hardware. We therefore ask for tests in the feedback if a camera does not work.
